Just find one of the blaster posts to read the rules and get yourself entered (you basically have to like, follow, and tag a friend in a comment; that’s it)!
I wanted to make the blaster from The Mandalorian, but I wanted to make it out of fancy wood. So I found an awesome 3D print file and used that as a template to cut out all of my wooden pieces on the bandsaw and scrollsaw. And I finally got to use my lathe to do the barrel parts. This was a super fun project that tested me and made me learn new things.
I started by finding this Thingiverse file for the Mandalorian’s blaster. I printed all the parts and then used them as a template. I drew some of the bigger pieces onto paper, and then used those to spray glue onto my wood pieces to cut them out. Other pieces I outlined directly onto small pieces, or just referenced them as I went.
The body and most of the barrel was made of walnut. The handle grips are red heart. Part of the barrel and the detail pieces are maple. And then some other detail, including the trigger, is purple heart. Everything was cut out on the bandsaw and scrollsaw.
This was my first time ever using a lathe, and I gotta say that thing is a ton of fun! I can’t wait to make some Harry Potter wands, and eventually upgrade to a bigger one and try my hand at some baseball bats. This was also a ton of bandsaw practice, and I would highly recommend watching Jimmy DiResta’s bandsaw tips video if that’s something you get into. I utilized several of his tips in making this blaster.
Thanks for reading and watching!
Cheers!
